Pete Skipworth, CEO of Cura Terrae and trustee of SCCCC, celebrates Sheffield Charity’s GSK Impact Award win.
Sheffield-based charity, SCCCC (Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care, also known as S and 4 Cs) has been honoured with the GSK IMPACT Award.
Cura Terrae’s CEO Prof Pete Skipworth has been a trustee of SCCCC for 6 years and he, along with the rest of Cura Terrae, are delighted to hear that SCCCC has received the GSK Impact Award for their work supporting vulnerable older citizens in the community.
The GSK IMPACT Awards provide funding, training and development for charities that improve people’s health and wellbeing. The awards are funded by GSK and managed in partnership with The King’s Fund. They are open to registered charities that are at least three years old and work in a health-related field in the UK, with a total annual income of between £120,000 and £3 million.
This Sheffield-based charity has made a difference to the lives of countless vulnerable or isolated individuals. Where many may not even give thought to the importance of facilitating the swift and safe discharge home from hospital for elderly individuals, after what likely is a traumatic or upsetting experience, SCCCC is there to take care of people who otherwise simply would not receive the necessary support and care.
SCCCC is able to do its work through the strong links it builds within the community.
The charity works in partnership with the local authority and NHS whilst also being supported by churches from all denominations and voluntary sector organisations.
This award means that SCCCC can continue to develop its work and the scope of its activities, which over just the last 12 months have involved running a Back Home Scheme, a Home from Hospital service, a Winter Pressures Service, an A&E to Home Services, High Seat Chair Loans, Food Parcels, Furniture Moves, Environmental Assessments, and referrals to the Good Neighbour Scheme.
Good mental health comes from our connections with others. When people become isolated, with family moving away or with friends just no longer being around, it can have a real detrimental effect. We’re really pleased that this award shines a light on loneliness and isolation in the elderly and vulnerable members of our society, and on the good work that Sn4Cs is doing to address and highlight this.
