We have successfully adopted Mycelia – Verna to support our Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments in Ecology.
Cura Terrae has become the first consultancy in the UK to adopt the Mycelia Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) platform for BNG Assessments in Ecology, strengthening our BNG offering, reducing risk to our clients and enhancing the quality of our deliverables.
Mycelia catches errors and risks within the BNG metric, to help ensure proposals are feasible and meet national and local validation checklists. Its adoption marks a milestone for our BNG team, who will now using Mycelia to enhance and streamline their BNG deliverables for clients.
The software is already widely used by LPAs across England, with more than 100 authorities actively using the platform for every aspect of BNG including pre-application, validation, determination, monitoring, and reporting. By aligning with the software used by planning authorities, our consultancy ensures greater consistency and transparency in submissions, and increased speed through the planning process.
One of its key benefits is its ability to immediately flag errors within the BNG metric. Issues that would traditionally take several hours to identify can now be highlighted in seconds in clear, user-friendly language.
This instant error-checking capability represents a significant time saving for both consultants and clients, while also improving the overall quality of BNG Assessments. The platform allows the team to import BNG metrics directly and receive immediate feedback, reducing the risk of delays during the planning process.
In addition to efficiency gains, the clarity of Mycelia’s outputs enables the us to better explain BNG requirements and outcomes to clients, supporting more informed decision-making and smoother project delivery.
Felicity Husband, Cura Terrae’s Technical Director of Ecology and Site BNG Lead, explains the significance of Mycelia’s adoption:
This is a really exciting platform, used extensively by Local Planning Authorities, that provides a more user-friendly interface than the Statutory Biodiversity Metric, and very swiftly and succinctly informs the user of any errors, risks and omissions within a Metric. We are the first ever non-LPA to adopt it!
As the first consultancy to take on Mycelia, Cura Terrae is adopting tools already trusted by LPAs, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality and robust Biodiversity Net Gain services.
Helen Nyul, Verna’s Director of Ecology, shares:
We’re excited to be working with Cura Terrae. Mycelia is used by organisations who are embracing technological solutions around nature to collaborate and provide clients with best-in-class support. We’re reducing risks, speeding up implementation and ensuring real action on the ground.
